CleanLane has not broken ground…

and may never

but you’re already paying for it.

Question: How will this be paid for?

Answer: By Everyone

The entire operation/financing will be paid for by tipping fee increases, which are paid by users (haulers and private parties) of Lane County Solid Waste Facilities. The County Commissioners have already voted for an 11% increase for 2024 and 11% in 2025. The County anticipates a 9% increase in 2026 and 9% in 2027, this is a 46% increase over 4 years In dollar terms, the tipping fee would increase from $91.32 to $133.67 in 2027, a $47/per ton increase over 4 years

Tipping Fee Increases

2024 -11% (8% + *3% CPI)

2025 -11%

2026 - 9%*

2027 - 9%* - A total of a 46% increase

2028 - 3% CPI + Hauler Anticipated increase

2029 - 3% CPI + Hauler Anticipated increase

*The county recently established an annual CPI increase of 3% automatically

*Some years Lane County would not need a rate increase

A $47/per (46% increase) ton increase over 4 years to dispose of garbage

Question: What’s this mean for residential Garbage Service (35 Gal)?

Here’s what Lane County said:

November 20, 2023

“an 11% landfill fee increase would result in a monthly curbside increase of 50-60 cents.”

- 2023-11-20 Council Agenda Packet

December 2023

“increases would amount to less than a $2/month increase in the first two years of the project”

- IMERF 2-page brief - Nov 2023

Here’s the actual garbage price for the smallest container 35 gal

Actual Price Increases

35 Gal Price - Eugene

  • 2023 - $27.05

  • 2024 - $28.26 = +$1.21

  • 2025 - $29.65 = +$1.39 + $1.21 = $2.60

The garbage haulers presented the below graphic in a letter to the commissioners prior to their votes on the overall impact to garbage prices for all rates after the 4 years of tipping fee increases
