CleanLane Myth # 1
“CleanLane will divert 80,000 tons of material away from the landfill each year”
Here’s how Lane County cannot guarantee this fact
From the CleanLane contract page 72
This means that CleanLane only guarantees 35.55% of the material it accepts gets diverted and the remaining 64.45% would get disposed of in the landfill.
According to the contract, Lane County is guaranteeing 120,000 tons of acceptable material and CleanLane can only process a maximum of 225,000 tons.
So lets do the math
120,000 (tons) x .355 = 42,600 tons diverted
225,000 (tons) x .355 = 79,875 tons diverted
According to public records Lane County only received 94,745 tons of acceptable material in 2024. If CleanLane was operational in 2024 the guaranteed diversion would yield 33,634 tons.
